An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred in the US state of California. This was announced today, September 19, by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake was recorded at 6:38 UTC. The epicenter of the tremors was located 15.4 kilometers east of Los Angeles. The source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 17.6 kilometers.

The earthquake shook buildings and was felt in San Diego, Valencia and the San Fernando area. The Los Angeles Fire Department has warned residents to prepare for aftershocks.
