American scientists have found out how sharks manage to navigate in space. Scientists from Florida State University and the University of Texas in the United States carried out a study with 20 juveniles belonging to the species Sphyrna tiburo.

During the experiments, sharks were individually placed in a round pool, in which the conditions for the location of the South and North Poles were simulated. Magnetic signals around the pool were modeled and then modified to determine if they affect the direction of sharks swimming and if fish use magnetic fields to determine direction.

Scientists have found that sharks can use magnetic fields to determine the direction of their movement. Experts admit the possibility that the response to the Earth’s magnetic field affects the location of shark populations and the genetics of these communities.
