US intelligence services are analyzing genetic data on viruses studied in the laboratory of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. This was reported on Thursday by the American television company CNN, citing sources.
The broadcaster does not have precise information on when and how American intelligence could have accessed this data, but does not rule out that this happened as a result of hacking into servers related to research in the Wuhan laboratory. According to the publication, the United States now has information about 22 thousand viruses studied in the Wuhan laboratory.

The array of genetic information requires careful analysis to make it possible to draw any specific conclusions. Such work is carried out with the help of supercomputers in the laboratories of the US Department of Energy, the TV company writes. According to her, the analysis process is complicated by the fact that the accompanying notes are made in Chinese, so the American special services need not only find knowledgeable Chinese specialists, but also make sure that they can be trusted. The exact timeline for the completion of this work has not yet been determined.

President Joe Biden said at the end of May that the US intelligence community did not have enough information to say with certainty how the spread of the new coronavirus began: from human contact with an infected animal or a possible incident in a Chinese laboratory. The American leader instructed the intelligence services to redouble efforts to study all available data and prepare a new report for him in 90 days.
