Turkish Foreign Ministry pointed out that “statements on 1915 events, incompatible with historical facts and international law, have no relation to reality”.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry issued a condemnation on Sunday of U.S. President Joe Biden, who called the events of the early 20th century in the Ottoman Empire the genocide of Armenians again.

“Statements about the events of 1915 that are inconsistent with historical facts and international law are irrelevant to reality. This includes today’s unfortunate statement by U.S. President Biden repeating the mistake made in 2021. We condemn those who distort political motives and historical facts and insist on this mistake,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement released today.

Earlier on Sunday, Biden honored the memory of Armenians killed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

A year ago, Biden became the first U.S. president to call the events of the early 20th century in the Ottoman Empire Armenian genocide. His predecessors as president avoided using the term. Ankara categorically rejects this description of the events of 1915 and claims that it was not genocide, but a fratricidal war whose victims were Armenians and Turks alike.
