Russian President Vladimir Putin may have already died. This statement was made on Sunday, May 29, synchronously by four British tabloids Daily Star, The Sun, Mirror and Express.

Citing MI6 intelligence sources, the Daily Star and Express claimed that instead of Putin at public events, such as the May 9 Victory Day parade, Russians may have been shown a double.

“Putin is very ill and when he dies, his death will be kept secret for weeks, if not months,” the Daily Star wrote, citing an unnamed senior intelligence official.

He claims that for Putin’s entourage – a narrow circle of top officials absolutely loyal to the president – the real fear is that if his death is announced, there could be a “plot” in the Kremlin and sabotage in the General Staff: the generals might want to stop the war with Ukraine.

“Putin’s death would make them powerless and vulnerable. So they have an obvious interest in saying Putin is alive when the truth may be the opposite,” says a British media source.

The Daily Star and Express refer to “Mi6 bosses” and intelligence insiders in their publications, while the other two tabloids, in turn, refer to a publication in the Daily Star.

Having started a war with Ukraine and plunged Russia into the strongest international isolation since the 1917 revolution, Putin has become a constant subject of health speculation, the scale of which has surpassed that of another rogue country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, chairman of the Korean Labor Party Central Committee.

Western tabloids have been reporting that Kim Jong-un is seriously ill for more than four years. In April 2020, the American New York Post reported that he may have died after a botched heart surgery and that his younger sister Kim Yo Jong-un had taken over the reins of power.

While the media diagnosed Kim Jong-un with diabetes, the media diagnosed Putin with cancer. Back in 2014, the New York Post wrote that the president had pancreatic cancer and would live no more than three years.

In mid-May, New Line magazine claimed to have obtained an audio recording of a conversation with a billionaire close to the Kremlin. On it, the businessman, allegedly a member of Russia’s Forbes top 100 list, claims that Putin has blood cancer, has gone insane and is capable of turning the whole world upside down.

Doctors point out that the Russian president does show outward signs of ill health. In public, Putin looks bloated like a frog, especially in the face and neck area – possibly due to taking steroids such as prednisolone, said Ashley Grossman, a professor of endocrinology at Oxford University.

Prednisolone is often prescribed for lymphoma, myeloma or blood cancers. These diseases can affect the back and spine. Because of this, according to Grossman, Putin may be immunocompromised and therefore so afraid of the coronavirus, and his behavior is “deeply irrational or paranoid.
