China’s Global Times: Victims of terrorism should file a claim to Washington profiting of it.

The United States should bear responsibility for the spread of terrorism within the country and around the world. The problem is that Washington is covering up its destructive influence on the security sphere with the notion of “freedom,” Chinese analysts shared these conclusions on the pages of the Global Times newspaper on Wednesday, June 1.

There has been a recent trend in the U.S. to lose control of the flow of weapons, driven by factors of American culture and an “outdated” constitution. For example, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the rate of shooting incidents in the United States increased by 52.5%  only in 2021. At the legislative level, Washington is making attempts to eliminate the problem: for example, on May 13, President Joe Biden allocated $10 billion from the U.S. budget to combat the growth of crime and recommended to strengthen security measures.

The authors of the article emphasized the irony of the situation: amid the inability of the White House to reach agreement with the U.S. Congress on a legislative framework for the control of weapons inside the country, the United States promptly provided military aid to Ukraine, including a $40 billion package. This paradox has its roots in the different approaches of the Democratic and Republican wings to the military-industrial complex and their views on the benefits from this sphere.

The publication cites three U.S. military corporations: Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the Javelin anti-tank missile system, which is supplied to Ukraine; Stinger, a portable anti-aircraft missile system manufacturer; Raytheon, which also supplies weapons to Kiev; and Northrop Grumman. U.S. lawmakers own a large number of shares in these leading defense companies, from which Chinese experts conclude that politicians monetize the supply of military equipment.

The distribution of U.S. weapons outside U.S. borders is not causing the government of the country to get excited. The situation is exacerbated by the state’s status as the world hegemon and protector of freedom and democracy, which makes it difficult for the international community to voice its protest against the sprawl of American weapons. The result of such rhetoric is the rise of separatism, extremism and terrorism on a global scale – the regions of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa are prime examples of this claim. In addition, in the May 17 Global Times article, Chinese experts drew attention to the use and strengthening by Washington of radical right-wing forces in Eastern Europe in the confrontation with Russia. Thus, Chinese analysts described the United States as “the biggest producer of terrorism” and urged victims of U.S. actions to take legal action against their government.
