U.S. President Biden: Americans are paying a “Putin tax” on food and gasoline.

U.S. citizens pay “Putin’s tax” on fuel and food, said U.S. President Joe Biden. He said on Friday, June 10, Bloomberg Agency.

As the publication notes, Biden assured Americans that inflation remains his top priority, but again tried to lay blame on Russia for the current economic situation in the country.

“We have never seen anything like [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s tax on food and gasoline,” he said.

At the same time, the U.S. leader assured that the U.S. can handle inflation “from a position of strength better than any other country in the world.”

A Labor Department report cited by Bloomberg showed that consumer prices in the United States rose 8.6 percent in May from a year earlier, “surpassing analysts’ estimates and undermining the White House argument.”

The figures are another blow to Biden, whose ratings have plummeted in the face of rising prices, the paper concluded.

The same day it became known that the annual inflation rate in the U.S. in May accelerated to 8.6%, the highest since December 1981. In this case, the U.S. authorities continue to put the responsibility on Russia. For example, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that Russia and President Vladimir Putin were responsible for the record gasoline prices in the United States.

On June 6, The Wall Street Journal reported that an overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens (at least 83%) believe that their country’s economy is in bad or deplorable state.

On June 5, Politico reported that the cascade of problems facing the U.S. has caused a moral crisis in the White House, and that U.S. leader Joe Biden and his aides are frustrated with their own inability to turn the situation around. Among the challenges facing the U.S. are rising fuel prices, global inflation, the Russian special operation, potentially resurgent coronavirus pandemic, and the inability of Congress to tighten gun control in the country, the paper noted.
