The United States is expected to announce this week its intention to supply Ukraine with medium- and long-range missile defense systems, CNN reported, citing a source in the U.S. administration.

U.S. President Joe Biden, who is currently in Germany, has previously made it clear that Washington intends to send Kiev “more advanced missile systems and munitions.”

The channel’s interlocutor said that in addition to missile defense systems, the U.S. is also likely to announce its intention to transfer other types of military assistance to Kiev, including ammunition and counter-battery radars.

The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly appealed to Western countries for arms supplies. The United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom sent tens of billions of dollars worth of ammunition and military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the course of several months of a special military operation.

Moscow warned that weapons and ammunition depots would become legitimate targets of the air force in the neighboring country.

German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht said that the weapons supplied to Ukraine would be used by Kiev exclusively for self-defence purposes.
