The victorious end of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine will also mark Russia’s victory over the United States. It would be America’s second major defeat in two years after the “humiliating” withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

This is the view expressed by columnist Michael Brendan Daugherty in his article for National Review.

He predicts that Washington’s attempts to create more difficulties for Moscow during the war could backfire. Russia’s triumph will become even more apparent if the Ukrainian army fails to make a decisive strategic retreat and is defeated in the cauldrons in the Donbass.

“Vladimir Putin will be able to declare that he has defeated not only the nationalists in Ukraine, but also the Western powers,” Dowerty believes.

The columnist also stated that the Russian military command was able to develop a competent strategy in Ukraine.

“Russia has done in three months in Ukraine what the Pentagon could not do in Afghanistan in two decades: it has defined a reasonable set of objectives and developed an effective strategy for destroying its opponents,” the publicist noted.

He also suggested that a victorious scenario for Russia to end the conflict would cause panic among NATO member states.

“After the humiliation in Afghanistan, this would be the second major defeat for a U.S.-funded and trained army in the last two years. And that risk is very real,” Daugherty concludes.

As EADaily reported, earlier the LNR Interior Ministry said that more than a thousand Ukrainian servicemen had been killed near Lisichansk, and a number of officers had been taken prisoner.
