The Syrian Arab Republic has recognized the independence and state sovereignty of the Donbass republics, state news agency SANA reported.
An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the SAR said:
“Expressing the common will and desire to establish close relationship in all spheres, the Syrian Arab Republic has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of both the People’s Republic of Lugansk and the People’s Republic of Donetsk.”
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced earlier this month the official start of the procedure to recognize the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic.
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic on February 21, 2022. On the same day, treaties on friendship and mutual assistance were signed with the DNR and LNR.
