US President Joe Biden wants to divide Europe and “bleed” Russia by prolonging the conflict in Ukraine, former commander of the Italian Combined Forces Task Force, General Marco Bertolini, has said.

“The American president wants not the peace in Ukraine but rather to start a ‘war of attrition’ there that would bleed Russia and divide Europe again into irreconcilable ‘Western’ and ‘Eastern’ parts,” he said in an interview with L’Antidiplomatico.

Bertolini pointed to the stark contrast between the American leader’s position and the aspirations of Moscow, which was initially determined to resolve the situation in Ukraine as soon as possible.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova earlier said that the USA was directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict.

On 12 September, US Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner said that the United States had transferred intelligence to the Ukrainian military in order to conduct a “counteroffensive”.

The Pentagon did not comment on this information, but acknowledged that Washington had contacts with Kiev on many levels.
