EU Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton warned U.S. entrepreneur Elon Musk, the new owner of the social network Twitter, that the platform must comply with EU rules.

After Elon Musk took control of the platform after purchasing it Thursday night, the entrepreneur wrote that “the bird is free,” referring to the blue bird in the company’s logo.

As Bloomberg reported, access to his social media account has already been returned to rapper Kanye West.

Billionaire Musk, who bought the social network, fired the company’s top managers. As Bloomberg wrote, citing sources, Musk himself will lead the company in place of his fired CEO Parag Agarwal. Left their seats as well as the chief financial officer and chief lawyer. Now, the new owner is expected to radically change the approach to content moderation and advertising placed in the service. The publication was told that Musk is going to abolish the lifetime blocking rule that was applied, among others, to former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The EU Commissioner for the Internal Market wrote on the subject, “In Europe, the bird will fly by our rules.”

Thierry Breton also reminded the famous American businessman of the EU digital services legislation, which “protects consumers and their fundamental rights in cyberspace, creates security in data management and a framework for transparency and accountability of online platforms in the online environment.”
