The Republican leader of the Republican minority in the lower house of Congress declared victory in the U.S. midterm elections in a speech to his supporters Wednesday, Nov. 9. Kevin McCarthy, who officially leads the minority group in the House of Representatives, said at 2 a.m. local time that he had won enough seats for it to be announced that Republicans had won a majority in the House.

“It’s clear that we’re going to take the House back.”

McCarthy attributed his party’s election victory to the diversity of Republican candidates for Congress. He said his party is opening its doors wider and that there is a place in the Republican Party for all who believe in freedom, hard work and the “American dream.”

In his speech, he promised to solve people’s daily problems, support the police, protect children and control the government.

He noted that by this morning Nancy Pelosi’s party would be in the minority. He was referring to the current “majority” speaker of the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives.

For her part, Nancy Pelosi refused to admit defeat in her statement last night. She said their candidates performed better than expected across the country.

FoxNews experts estimated electoral participation for 172 Democrats and 200 Republicans. CNN predicted that 178 Democrats and 199 Republicans would win in the morning. It takes 218 for a majority in the 435-member House of Representatives.
