Politico: the US intends to transfer Stryker armored cars to Ukraine

The Pentagon is considering the possibility of transferring modern Stryker armored personnel carriers as part of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, the Politico newspaper reported on January 9, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

It is noted that the administration may announce the Stryker package at the end of next week, around the time of the next meeting of the Contact Group on Ukrainian Defense in Germany. That said, a final decision has not yet been made.

“We don’t have any announcements at this point,” said Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Garron Garn.

The authors of the material pointed out that such armored personnel carriers are not as powerful and protected. Nevertheless, they can operate in snow, mud and sand, though their off-road mobility is somewhat limited due to the lack of crawler tracks.

Earlier in the day, Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the U.S. President, said that the planned defense spending cuts by the U.S. House of Representatives are not likely to affect military aid to Ukraine.
