Steven Spielberg won the Golden Globe for Best Director for “The Fabelmans,” the 80th award ceremony being held in Los Angeles and broadcast on NBC.

James Cameron (“Avatar 2”), Baz Luhrmann (“Elvis”), the creative tandem of Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan (“All at Once”), and Martin McDonagh (“Banshee Inisherina”) also competed for the award in this category.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) Golden Globe Award is presented annually for achievement in film and television. The award is given by the organization’s member journalists from 55 countries.

Spielberg has the record number of Golden Globe nominations for directing – 13, and so far there have been only two wins.
