The Chinese military accused the US destroyer of illegally entering the waters of Sisha Islands

The U.S. missile destroyer USS Milius entered the waters of the disputed Xisha Islands (Paracel Islands) in the South China Sea without Chinese permission, Tian Junli, an official of the Southern Zone Combat Command of the People’s Liberation Army of China, said Thursday.

“The missile destroyer USS Milius illegally entered the territorial waters of China’s Xisha Archipelago (Paracel Islands) on March 23 without permission from the Chinese government, thereby undermining peace and stability in the South China Sea,” Tian Junli said in a statement.

He noted that the PLA Southern Combatant Command Area Navy Group escorted the U.S. ship and warned it to leave the relevant area.

Tian Junli stressed that PLA Southern Zone Combat Command troops will continue to maintain a high level of combat readiness and take all necessary measures to resolutely defend state sovereignty and security as well as peace and stability in the South China Sea.
