NYP: Biden’s wife embarrassed herself by asking the audience to applaud her

U.S. President Joe Biden’s wife Jill got into an awkward situation during her speech at the Reagan Institute in Washington because of the lack of applause after her phrase about U.S. unity, writes the New York Post.

“I have visited red (Republican. – ed.) and blue (Democratic. – ed.) states and found that the shared values that unite us are deeper than our differences,” the first lady said.

She was “momentarily” silent afterwards and then stated “with surprise”: “And, um, I thought you might have clapped about it,” which drew laughter and applause from the audience.

As NYP notes, the Biden situation brought to mind the “viral” video of “desperate” Republican Jeb Bush, who during the 2016 campaign “with a mixture of politeness and annoyance” asked the audience to clap for him after a “loud” sentence that should have elicited applause but was met with silence.
