US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo told reporters that Washington “will not tolerate” the recent decision by Chinese authorities to ban the use of US chip maker Micron Technology in some critical sectors of the Chinese economy.

“We will not tolerate it and we don’t think it will be successful. We see it as simple economic coercion,” Bloomberg quoted the minister as saying.

As reported last Sunday, China’s Cyberspace Authority banned leading computer hardware manufacturers from buying products from Micron Technology, the largest memory chip maker in the US.

“Critical information infrastructure operators in China must stop purchasing products from Micron,” the regulator said in a statement.

It lacked details, but said Micron’s chips pose “serious risks to network security”.
