Ben Wallace, the former head of the British Defense Ministry, tried to sabotage the contract for the supply of Chinook helicopters from the United States on the eve of leaving his post, sources of The Sunday Times reported.

According to TASS, Britain was to buy 14 US-made Chinook H-47 helicopters.

However, Wallace sent a letter to his American counterpart Lloyd Austin in August proposing to renegotiate the deal, while Britain has yet to make a final decision.

The Sunday Times source noted that Wallace was skeptical of the contract, especially after the $630 million increase in its value.
