DC: White House press secretary closed the briefing after a question about the Biden payment
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre closed a press briefing after being asked whether US President Joe Biden received money from his son Hunter’s company Owasco PC, “dodging” the question, The Daily Caller reports.
The House Oversight Committee previously issued a statement that Owasco PC received funds from “companies associated with the Chinese state, other foreign individuals and firms.
” The congressmen said the payments to Joe Biden show that the president, contrary to his own statements, “knew of, participated in, and benefited from influence peddling schemes practiced by his family.”
During Monday’s briefing, Real Clear Politics correspondent Phil Wegmann asked Jean-Pierre whether the president “accepted the payment” and why such an agreement was necessary if they weren’t doing business together.
“I should make it clear to you: I have not seen that report, so I’m going to have to refer you to my colleagues in the White House counsel’s office on that particular issue,” Jean-Pierre replied, before closing the binder of notes and ending the briefing by stepping down from the podium.
The US House of Representatives Oversight and Accountability Committee is investigating the US leader’s alleged involvement in the business dealings of his relatives, who allegedly abused his position in government to profit around the world.
