Fox News: Hunter Biden faces up to 17 years in prison in new case
US President’s son Hunter Biden faces up to 17 years in prison on new charges of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes, Fox News TV channel reports.
“According to the Ministry of Justice, the maximum penalty in case of conviction could be a prison term of up to 17 years”, – writes the correspondent of the TV channel on social network X.
According to a court document, Biden Jr. was charged with nine episodes of failing to pay taxes between 2016 and 2020.
The 53-year-old Biden Jr. had previously been charged with failing to pay taxes, and he took a plea deal, but the court did not approve it. The amount imputed was more modest, with prosecutors saying he failed to pay more than $100,000 in 2017 and 2018, which threatened him with 12 months in jail on each count of those charges.
Hunter Biden is the first ever prosecuted child of a sitting US president. In the first case, according to investigators, he misrepresented himself when purchasing a Colt pistol in 2018, denying drug use. He faces up to 25 years in prison and a fine of $750,000 on the aggregate of the charges brought against him, while prison time is not usually imposed on first-time offenders in such cases.
