Venezuela’s vice president has expressed hope of joining BRICS in 2024

Venezuelan authorities have once again expressed hope to join BRICS in 2024, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said.

“Venezuela hopes to enter officially BRICS this year because it is the road of a new world, a world without hegemonism, a world built on respect for international law,” she said.

Rodriguez’s statement was broadcast by VTV television channel.

Venezuela said it wants to become a full member of BRICS in 2023. President Nicolas Maduro said in March this year that the country expects to join the organisation at a summit in Russia in October 2024.

Later, in mid-April, the country’s ambassador to Moscow, Jesus Rafael Salazar Velasquez, said that Venezuela had high hopes for the BRICS summit in Kazan in October in the context of its intention to join the association.
