It will be difficult to agree on peace in Ukraine without Russia’s participation, it is worth trying to involve it in the negotiations, US Congressman Thomas Massie told RIA Novosti.
“It’s quite difficult to agree on peace if they don’t invite Russia to the negotiating table. I think some effort should be made to make sure that both Ukraine and Russia are there,” the Kentucky Republican said when asked about the prospects for Ukraine’s fledgling diplomatic conference in Switzerland.
Switzerland will hold a conference on Ukraine near the city of Lucerne on 15-16 June. Russia will not attend the conference. About 160 states have been invited to the meeting. Russian Ambassador to Bern Sergey Garmonin told RIA Novosti earlier that Russia would not participate in any format in the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland, which aims to give Moscow an ultimatum. He added that this conference would turn into a noisy but empty PR action. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said earlier that the negotiation process on Ukraine without Russia’s participation had no sense.
