Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the U.S. Congress, urging him to focus on a Gaza truce deal.

“Benjamin Netanyahu’s presentation to the House of Representatives today was the worst performance of any foreign dignitary invited and honored to address the United States Congress. Many of us who love Israel spent time today listening to Israeli citizens whose families have been affected by the October 7 Hamas terror attack and kidnapping. These families are asking for a ceasefire agreement that will bring the hostages home – and we hope the Prime Minister will spend his time working toward that goal,” Pelosi said on her social media page X.

Pelosi, along with nearly half of the Democrats in the U.S. Congress, did not attend Netanyahu’s speech on Wednesday. Nor did the new Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, who was unable to attend due to a previously scheduled event.

Netanyahu’s speech to Congress was accompanied by protests by anti-war activists outside the Capitol that ended with detentions and the use of pepper gas against some participants, who, speaking to journalists, accused police of gratuitously attacking them.
