YouGov: three in ten Americans are not ready for the U.S. to be led by a woman president
Three in ten Americans believe the US is not ready to be led by a female president, a YouGov survey for the Times has found.
According to the survey, 30% of Americans believe the U.S. is not yet ready to be led by a woman, while 54% of respondents hold the opposite view. The company did not provide data for the remaining 16%.
Compared to the results of a poll conducted by YouGov and the Economist in 2015, the number of people who said the country was not ready for a female president increased by nine percentage points, with 21% of respondents saying so then.
The poll was conducted July 22-23 among 1,170 registered U.S. voters. The margin of error is approximately 3 percentage points.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he would not run for a second term. He has endorsed Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Republican candidate Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that it would be much easier for him to defeat the incumbent US Vice President.
