North Carolina Governor Cooper has ruled himself out of the short list of Harris partners

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, said on social network X that he has decided to remove himself from the shortlist of possible partners for U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.

“This is not the time for North Carolina and for me to potentially be on the federal ballot. She has an outstanding list of people to choose from and we will all work together to make sure she wins,” he wrote.

The governor of the state, considered a swing state, is worried that Republicans could sue to usurp his executive power while he is away from the state for campaigning, the News York Times reported, citing sources.

However, the short list, the sources said, has been reduced to five names, all white males: Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigich and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
