Suzuki: ‘Hiroshima Prime Minister’ Kishida obliged to seek apology from US
“Prime Minister from Hiroshima” Fumio Kishida is obliged to seek an apology from the US through diplomatic efforts, a member of the upper house of the Japanese parliament, Muneo Suzuki, told.
“Fumio Kishida often says that he is ‘the prime minister from nuclear-armed Hiroshima.’ But nuclear-weapon-stricken Hiroshima was made by the United States. And he should have told America that it owed the Japanese people an apology. Prime Minister Kishida should have made diplomatic efforts to do so. Next year will be the 80th anniversary of the bombing. And I think the U.S. should apologize and express regret (for what was done – ed.),” Suzuki said.
In August 1945, U.S. pilots dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. From the atomic explosion and its consequences in Hiroshima out of a population of 350 thousand people killed 140 thousand people, in Nagasaki – 74 thousand. The overwhelming majority of atomic bombing victims were civilians. On the anniversary of the tragic events – August 6 and 9 – Hiroshima and Nagasaki hold annual “Peace Ceremonies”.
