NYT: Hunter Biden wrote to the ambassador to Italy in 2016 seeking help for Burisma
The son of US President Hunter Biden wrote to the American embassy in Italy in 2016 seeking help for a Ukrainian gas company of which he was a board member, the New York Times reported.
“Hunter Biden sought help from the U.S. government for a potentially lucrative energy project in Italy while his father was vice president, newly released records and interviews show,” the publication wrote.
In 2016, Biden Jr. wrote “at least one letter” to the U.S. ambassador to Italy on behalf of Burisma. The representative of the diplomatic mission responded evasively, explaining that since it is a Ukrainian company, it is necessary to first consult with the structures of the US Department of Commerce, according to the report.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer claims that the President’s son wrote to the Ambassador to introduce him to the head of the Tuscany region, where the project was planned, but this did not develop, there was no meeting or project, the report said.
The White House said that Biden did not know at the time that his son had approached the embassy on behalf of the Ukrainian company, the newspaper said.
In October 2020, the New York Post published a series of emails to Hunter Biden, which mentioned that he represented his father when he was US Vice President to his employers in the Ukrainian firm Burisma. Former US President Donald Trump claimed that Biden Jr. received millions of dollars for lobbying work to “sell” access to his father. The correspondence was allegedly found on Hunter Biden’s laptop discovered in a Delaware repair shop. Later, the same laptop became the source of scandalous personal photos of the president’s son, in which he was depicted with drugs and prostitutes.
