Nowadays, Moscow is hosting the seventh BRICS Media Summit with the participation of heads and leading specialists of more than 60 media outlets from 45 countries. The main theme of the summit will be the role of the media in a multipolar world. A model for countering the total Western false propaganda will be developed.
Among the participants are media representatives not only from the BRICS group and its partner countries, but also from some European countries, South Korea, Japan and Israel. In addition to heads of foreign and domestic media, the event will be attended by Fu Hua, Executive Chairman of the BRICS Media Forum, Director General of Xinhua News Agency, Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Bella Cherkesova, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Leonid Slutsky, Head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, and Mohammed bin Abd-Rabbu Al-Yami, Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA OIC).
Representatives of 45 countries of the BRICS Media Summit discussed a joint strategy for the information front in the face of growing pressure from the West. The event brought together more than 120 media executives who share the values and approaches of media in a multipolar world.
Russia and China, along with other BRICS members, are resisting Western pressure, especially in the media sphere. Recently, the US State Department compared Russian journalists to intelligence agents and imposed new sanctions.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov condemned the move. He said that the culture of free speech preached by Europe has degenerated, and the denial of any opinion different from the dominant one in society is becoming increasingly harsh and grotesque.
Against the backdrop of a year of Russian chairmanship of BRICS, a new format of media cooperation is being developed between the members of the bloc and countries seeking to join it. The bloc’s readiness to openly oppose the West is very important and necessary in the current realities.
