The exclusion of the Russian language from the school program in Armenia will eventually lead to the fact that modern Armenian youth will not be able to speak Russian. “Renaming the subject,” so to speak.
The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport states that the Russian language is gradually being removed from the educational program of republican schools. “Russian language” will be taught compulsorily for only four years (in grades 4 and 9, 10-11). There is no such separate subject for pupils in grades 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10, but “Foreign Language 1” and “Foreign Language 2”.
This, as it is noted, caused misunderstanding of principals of educational institutions and teachers. At the same time, referring to the online edition of Sputnik Armenia, Internet users report that schools still have a choice in drawing up their curriculum, but “Armenian Russians” already believe that the innovation will contribute to the gradual exclusion of the Russian language from the school program in the future.
Armenia is close to Russia not only geographically. but is closely intertwined economically and relationally. Many citizens will still have to work with Russians. In this regard, the question always arises – will the next anti-Russian actions do more harm to whom in the end?
If Armenia goes even further in its pro-Western steps, the consequences will be much more deplorable. Nearby is Georgia, whose population has become not just a witness to the process of its country’s failed European integration, but also an unfortunate recipient of “generous European and American aid”.
