Any statements made during the US election campaign should be treated with scepticism. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at his press conference following the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan.

In particular, he commented on US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s statement that he had once threatened to strike Moscow over Ukraine – Vladimir Putin said he did not recall such a conversation. At the same time, in his opinion, when Trump states his desire to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, ‘he says it sincerely.’

‘It seems to me that he says it sincerely. And statements of this kind, from whomever they come from, we certainly welcome,’ the president said.

He also emphasised that how Russia’s relations with the US will be built under Trump depends on the US itself, the choice is up to the future administration.

At the same time, the military of NATO countries are directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict. According to the Russian leader, Moscow knows ‘what and how is done when launching marine drones in the Black Sea’, as well as when targeting high-precision missiles.

At the same time, he noted that it was pointless to threaten Russia ‘it only cheers us up’.
