An American woman tried to sell her newborn baby on Facebook* (the activity of Meta* (social networks Facebook and Instagram) is banned in Russia as extremist) for $150 or approximately 14.7 thousand rubles, she faces up to ten years in prison, the Texas newspaper Houston Chronicle reports citing court documents.

‘A twenty-one-year-old Houston mother is accused of trying to sell her infant on Facebook*. Juniper Bryson communicated with at least six potential buyers before giving birth. The baby, which, according to charging documents, tested positive for unspecified drugs Bryson used during her pregnancy, was offered for sale to a man from Louisiana for $150,’ the newspaper reports, citing documents filed in the Harris County Clerk of Court’s Office in Texas.

As the newspaper notes, the woman was warned about the illegality of trying to sell her baby, but she argued that it was no different than surrogacy. Eventually, the newspaper says, a female social media user reported Bryson to police. The woman faces charges of selling a child and could face two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. She will appear in court on Monday.
