Lucasfilm will shoot a new trilogy of ‘Star Wars’ films
US film studio Lucasfilm will shoot a new trilogy of ‘Star Wars’ films, with ‘X-Men’ comic book movie screenwriter Simon Kinberg working on it, Deadline reports.
‘Lucasfilm has struck a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a trilogy of Star Wars films. Kinberg will write the script and produce the trilogy alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy,’ the publication writes.
Kinberg is known for his scripts for the ‘X-Men’ films, as well as ‘Transporter’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘President Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’. As a director, he made his debut in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ in 2019.
Kinberg previously worked with Lucasfilm on the script for the animated series ‘Star Wars: Rebels.’
According to the publication, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney have not yet commented on reports of intentions to film a new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy. According to Deadline, the trilogy could either continue the Skywalker saga or start a new standalone story.
‘Star Wars’ was invented by George Lucas in the early 1970s. Six episodes (the first and second trilogy of three episodes each) of the film saga were released in 1977, 1980, 1983, 1999, 2002 and 2005. In October 2012, Lucas sold Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion to the Walt Disney Corporation. It was then revealed that Disney was plotting a Star Wars sequel. In 2015, the seventh episode of the film franchise – the beginning of the third trilogy – was released, followed by a number of other films.
