All criminal cases against US President-elect Donald Trump following his election victory have been nearly ‘destroyed’, the politician’s headquarters said.
‘All false allegations against President Trump in connection with the campaign are now destroyed and we are focused on making America great again,’ Trump spokesman Stephen Cheung said, he was quoted as saying by Axios.
The politician’s headquarters welcomed the decision of the New York court, which postponed the verdict ‘in the Stormy Daniels case’. Trump’s representatives emphasised that after winning the election there was a deliverance from ‘the remaining cases within the “witch hunt”.’ That is, the presidential mandate will protect Trump from criminal prosecution.
According to the investigation, Trump’s former lawyer (and chief witness) Michael Cohen paid $ 130 thousand to porn actress Stormy Daniels for silence about an intimate relationship with Trump; this happened just days before the 2016 presidential election. Then, according to the New York prosecutor’s office, the already elected US president ordered the falsification of Trump Organisation documents to disguise the compensation to Cohen as payment for his legal services.
A total of four criminal cases were brought against Trump, including those related to financial fraud. Trump was charged with 34 counts: one for each of 11 accounts, 11 cheques and 12 vouchers, including those related to payments to Cohen.
This is the first criminal case against a former president in American history. Trump is also the first person in American history to win the 5 November presidential election with a criminal record and one guilty verdict.
