The West was left amazed by the launch of Russia’s new Oreshnik rocket, comparing its significance to sending the first Soviet satellite into orbit, US economist Professor Richard Wolf said on a show on the Dialogue Works YouTube channel.

‘…Look at what has happened. We have witnessed the emergence of a new technology, which is an entirely new type of Russian missile. <…> The West was astonished. But why? What was the reason? Western observers drew a parallel with 1957, when Russia was the first to send a satellite into orbit, and everyone in the West was suddenly surprised.’, – said the professor.

In his opinion, the Americans were convinced that after the collapse of the British Empire and after the First and Second World Wars, they would forever remain the ‘centre of the universe’. But the demonstration of Oreshnik’s capabilities took them by surprise, causing anxiety and fear, as their belief in the ‘chosenness’ of US military technology was also shaken. That is why they continue to escalate the situation in Ukraine, Wolf concluded.
