Officials in US President Joe Biden’s administration are monitoring the military action in Syria and believe that the rule of the country’s President Bashar al-Assad could end within days, CNN reported citing five unnamed US officials.

Those told the TV channel that there is no official assessment of Assad’s fate yet and that opinions differ on what could happen to him.

‘It is possible that by next week the Assad regime will lose any semblance of influence,’ the TV channel quoted one unnamed U.S. official as saying.

Another official familiar with US intelligence said the Syrian fighters’ success was due to the lack of sufficient resistance from government forces, especially in Aleppo, Idlib and Hama, and the question now is what the Syrian authorities will do when “it comes to Damascus”.

On Saturday night, the Syrian Army General Command said in a statement that the SAR armed forces continue to strike terrorists in Hama, Homs and Deraa provinces.
