North Korea has toughened the penalties for divorce, and cooking hot dogs is fraught with jail time. This is reported by the English newspaper Daily Mail.
It is reported that Kim Jong-un banned North Koreans from eating hot dogs and ordered to imprison both former spouses for divorce, the newspaper said. The popular fast food is too Westernized, so selling and cooking it will now be considered an act of treason.
“Anyone who sells hot dogs on the streets or cooks an American sausage dish at home risks being sent to a labor camp,” the publication stresses.
Divorcees, on the other hand, face up to six months in jail, as dissolving a marriage is seen as “anti-socialist.”
“According to reports, women could potentially face longer sentences. It is a tightening of existing laws that previously only penalized the party seeking the divorce, even in cases of physical violence. Under the new rules, both spouses could face jail time after the divorce is finalized,” the newspaper said, citing RFA.
