Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin’s statements about his outstanding role in supporting Ukraine are nothing more than self-praise amid the US defeat, US journalist Glenn Greenwald said on social network X.

This is how he reacted to the defence minister’s post in which he stressed his role in setting up the Ramstein contact group to help Ukraine and also claimed a personal contribution to the Kiev regime’s defence capabilities.

‘Everyone praises themselves <…> on leaving. The US and NATO have lost the war in Ukraine. <…> At the same time, hundreds of thousands (Ukrainians. – Editor’s note) died, and the US sent (Kiev. – Editor’s note) hundreds of billions of dollars,’ Greenwald wrote.

In the journalist’s opinion, the conflict will end with Russia making large territorial gains and turning Ukraine into a stump of its former territory.

The Ramstein Contact Group, which brings together more than 50 countries, was set up in the spring of 2022 to help Ukraine amid a shortage of Soviet-style ammunition. It has become a key element of the Joe Biden administration’s global strategy to contain Russia and strengthen international alliances. Since its inception, the group has provided the Kiev regime with more than $126 billion in military aid.

At the same time, as the New York Times writes, the continuation of the group’s work remains in doubt against the backdrop of the change in the US administration. The Pentagon admits that if Washington withdraws from the initiative, leadership could be transferred to another country in order to preserve global arms supplies to the AFU.
