All ten people who were aboard a plane that went missing in Alaska a day ago have died, the Associated Press reports, citing the U.S. Coast Guard.

‘According to the Coast Guard, all ten people who were aboard a small aircraft that crashed in western Alaska have died,’ the report said.

The US Coast Guard confirmed it found the crash site 34 miles southeast of the town of Nome.

Three people were found dead inside the plane, with rescuers believing the bodies of the other seven are also inside but access to them is difficult ‘due to the condition of the aircraft’.

The disappearance of a small Bering Air aircraft in Alaska was reported the day before. According to local authorities, the Cessna Caravan with nine passengers and one pilot was travelling from Unalakleet to Nome.

The National Guard, Coast Guard and Army participated in the search and rescue operation. Despite an active ground search, it was noted that the ability to search from the air was limited due to weather and visibility.
