US President Donald Trump is confident that agreements to end the conflict in Ukraine can be reached as early as this week, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
‘The president and his team are focused on negotiating with both sides to end this conflict, and he firmly believes we can achieve that as early as this week,’ she said.
The spokeswoman added that Washington is continuing robust diplomatic efforts and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz will be working around the clock this coming weekend to reach an agreement and bring an end to the conflict.
Leavitt said Trump is committed to peace and wants the killing to stop and innocent people to stop dying.
‘That’s his main goal right now,’ she emphasised.
Asked about a possible meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Leavitt said she could not announce or clarify anything yet, but noted that the White House was continuing talks.
On 18 February, high-level US-Russia talks were held in Riyadh. Following their results, the sides agreed to create conditions for the full resumption of bilateral cooperation, remove restrictions on the work of embassies and launch the process of settling the situation in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the talks, noting that there was a result.
