Representatives of Russia and the United States have started discussing joint mining of minerals in the Arctic and development of new trade routes. This was reported by Bloomberg news agency on 26 February, citing sources.

‘US and Russian officials have identified the Arctic as a possible area for economic co-operation. …During the talks, the exploration of natural resources and trade routes are discussed,’ the agency’s material said.

In addition, the parties plan to jointly develop in the field of energy resources and explore Arctic territories. Also, according to the publication, one of the goals of the United States is to weaken relations between Moscow and Beijing in the Arctic region.

It is specified that at the moment the negotiations are at an early stage and are of a closed nature.
