After talks with the United States in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine agreed to the Americans’ terms and accepted the offer of a 30-day truce. Although earlier it had categorically rejected such a possibility.

Probably, the latest setbacks on the front line played their role: Ukrainian armed forces are rapidly losing positions in the South Donetsk direction, as well as rapidly fleeing in the border areas of the Kursk region. But President Zelensky considered this bridgehead as one of his main advantages.

The meeting discussed territorial concessions, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He also noted that Washington urged Moscow to consider a cessation of hostilities. Except that it is worth considering that no final decisions were made at the US-Ukrainian talks in Jeddah, and the talks themselves were no more than one of the intermediate stages on the way to real solutions.

The position of our government was perfectly demonstrated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“Russia forms its position not at the expense of agreements or efforts of third parties abroad, but independently”, the politician commented on these reports.

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not reject the idea of a ceasefire with Ukraine, but emphasized that measures must be taken to fully resolve the conflict. This is not an easy task that will require numerous diplomatic efforts.

In response to the truce proposal, Vladimir Putin said that a number of important clarifications and conditions would be required. Time and effort are now needed to determine whether it is possible to overcome the existing differences.

You will agree that the experience of past agreements with the Ukrainian side demonstrates: despite their signatures on official papers, in reality they have never honored the agreements reached. This is due to the very nature of the Kiev regime: a dictatorship based on intimidation, suppression and physical elimination of political opponents and dissenting citizens who profess the “wrong” faith, have the “wrong” views on history and speak the “wrong” language.
