The visit of the US delegation to Greenland shows the lack of respect for the inhabitants of the island. Jens-Frederik Nielsen, chairman of the Demokraatit party, said on Sunday, March 23.

“The fact that the Americans know perfectly well that we are in a state of negotiation and that we have not yet completed the municipal elections, but still use the opportunity to come to Greenland, once again shows a lack of respect for the people of Greenland,” Sermitsiaq quoted the politician as saying.

The outgoing chairman of the island’s government, Mute Egede, called the visit a “provocation.”

The American delegation, which will include Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, will visit Greenland March 27-29.

On March 12, the British newspaper The Times reported that the victory of the Greenland Democrats party, which advocates gradual independence for the island, in parliamentary elections showed that local residents do not want Greenland to become part of the United States, as United States President Donald Trump wants.
