The situation facing Europe is different from World War II, and Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to expand hostilities to the entire region. This was stated by the US President’s special envoy to the Middle East, The Guardian reports.
According to Whitkoff, quoted by Reuters, Putin does not want to “take over all of Europe” and it is a “very different situation” than during World War II.
The special envoy also said he expected “much more progress” at the talks, which are due to take place tonight in Saudi Arabia.
“The meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian officials on Sunday night will come before a similar meeting between the U.S. and Russia on Monday. The Ukrainian delegation to Sunday’s meeting will be led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Reuters reported. “The talks are expected to be ‘purely technical’,” the British newspaper said.
It is noted that on Saturday, Whitkoff told American journalist Tucker Carlson that the plan of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other European leaders to create an international force to support the cease-fire is “posing and posturing.”
