Four U.S. soldiers who went missing during an exercise in Lithuania have died. This was announced to journalists in Warsaw today NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, reports AR.
According to Rutte, he does not know the details yet.
“This is still preliminary data, we don’t know the details. This is really terrible news and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones,” Rutte said.
A U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said only that four soldiers had been involved in an accident during an exercise. He would not comment on the condition of the soldiers, reports said.
A statement from the U.S. Army’s public affairs office for Europe and Africa in Wiesbaden, Germany, said the soldiers were conducting a routine tactical exercise at the time.
The Americans were in a tracked armored personnel carrier that overturned in the Schwenchen district. And although Lithuanian Army Major Gintautas Tsiunis told the media that “a possible location of the incident has been established, a search and rescue operation is underway,” military sources say the entire crew was killed.
Agency Baltic News Service (BNS), citing unnamed sources, reported that Russian and Belarusian security services may be behind the deaths of four U.S. servicemen in Lithuania.
“Of course, propagandists do not present any evidence of this version, but the topic is already being discussed in the Lithuanian and American media,” comments the picture of the day of the telegram channel ‘Voenkory Russkaya Vesna’.
“Yes… stop already, a laughingstock,” Ukrainian opposition blogger Anatoly Shariy said in his turn.
