The era of former Canadian-American relations is over, Canada faces difficult times ahead. This was stated by Prime Minister Mark Carney at a press conference.

“The old relationship that we had with the United States, based on deeper integration of our economies and close security and military cooperation, is over. What exactly the United States will do next is unclear, but one thing is clear: we Canadians have freedom of choice. We have power. We are masters in our own home,” Bloomberg quoted Carney as saying.

In addition, the Canadian Prime Minister pointed to the need to reduce dependence on the United States. According to him, it is necessary to build trade relations with other countries

“And we will need to do things that were previously thought impossible, at a speed we haven’t seen in generations,” he added.

In February, Trump imposed duties of 25 percent on goods from Canada, except energy products, which were slapped with duties of 10 percent. Ottawa retaliated and also sued the US at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
