Employees at the US General Services Administration (GSA) inadvertently shared a Google Drive folder containing potentially sensitive documents, including floor plans of the White House, with the entire staff of the agency, the Washington Post reports.
“Employees inadvertently shared a Google Drive folder containing confidential documents with the entire GSA staff of more than 11,200 people,” the publication said.
According to the newspaper, IT specialists last week identified the owners of the files, and access to the documents was restricted.
Washington Post notes that the first case with access to documents occurred in 2021, when an employee of the department without intent changed the settings of general access to the file with the layout of the East Wing of the White House. In addition to floor plans, other documents contained information about a planned blast door for the White House visitor center, as well as bank account information for a vendor who helped with a press conference for U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the publication, employees were able to not only view but also edit the contents of at least 10 of the 15 files.
