The new pope will probably be elected in the first days of May. This is reported by the telegram channel “DW main”.

There are no candidates as such in the election of the pope, each cardinal writes the name of his candidate on the ballot paper and throws it into the ballot box. Who is mentioned more often than others – the one becomes the favorite, writes TC.

It is noted that the best chance of getting the papal tiara is the 70-year-old Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin – his name is mentioned most often, he is also the favorite in bookmakers.

“A brilliant diplomat with a calm voice and subtle humor, Parolin hails from Northern Italy – like most Italian popes over the past 250 years,” TC points out.

Many U.S. Catholics want to see a pope from their own country at the Vatican, but that is unlikely to be possible under current President Donald Trump. According to observers’ estimates, the chances of this happening are close to zero.

As for representatives from Asia, where the Catholic Church is now flourishing, 67-year-old Filipino Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle is considered the favorite.

Ukrainian bishop Mykola Bychok may become the new pope. This was reported by UNIAN with reference to CrisisMagazine.
