The U.S. has received intelligence about Israel’s possible preparations to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, CNN reports, citing U.S. officials.

“The U.S. has received new intelligence indicating that Israel is making preparations for strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities,” the channel said.

As the channel’s sources emphasize, it is still unclear whether the Israeli leadership has made a final decision on the strikes. Nevertheless, according to one of them, the likelihood of such a scenario has increased significantly in recent months.

An Israeli source told CNN that Israel would be prepared to take independent military action against Iran if the U.S. makes what Israel considers a “bad” nuclear deal with Iran.

Iran last year attacked Israel twice with missiles for the first time in history: the first time on April 14 in response to an Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate general in Damascus. A few days later, on the night of April 19, according to U.S. media reports, Israel launched a “limited” retaliatory strike against facilities on Iranian territory. Explosions were reported near the city of Isfahan. Iranian state agency IRIB reported that in a number of provinces of the country air defense systems were triggered by the approach of drones. Officially, Israel did not claim responsibility for the strikes at the time.

For the second time, Iran subjected Israel to a massive rocket attack on October 1, calling it an act of self-defense. Iran called its attack a response to the deaths of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrullah and Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, whose deaths were also blamed on Israel during a visit to Tehran.
