Musk thanked Trump for the opportunity to cut government spending
The head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, said on his social media page X that his planned term as a special government employee is coming to an end and thanked United States President Donald Trump for the “opportunity to cut wasteful spending” by the government.
“As my planned term as a special government employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to cut wasteful spending. DOGE’s mission will only grow stronger over time as it becomes a way of life for the entire government,” Musk wrote.
On May 20, Politico reported, citing its own analysis, that Musk had disappeared from the public eye, his name becoming less frequently mentioned in publications by Trump and other politicians. Musk later announced plans to devote more time to his companies.
The Musk-led DOGE, created by Trump, is designed to “cut wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies.” U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson earlier said the department had identified “shocking” spending by the U.S. government that had not been authorized in Congress.
